Almost half of all adults in the United States experience symptoms and discomfort of hemorrhoids at some point in their life. Hemorrhoids occur in both men and women and are most common in older adults, pregnant women and those that are obese, or have a family history of the condition. Many of these people suffer for years with the pain, itching and discomfort because they believe that they can never get rid of hemorrhoids.
If you are one of those people that think you can never get rid of hemorrhoids, or that the only option is a very painful surgical procedure, you need to think again. There are new advances in treatment that allow a minimally invasive, surgery free way to completely eliminate the swelling that is causing the condition.
What Are Hemorrhoids?
If you are going to get rid of hemorrhoids the first step is to understand what they are. Hemorrhoids are swollen veins, similar to varicose veins in the legs, but they are located just on the inside of the anus or slightly higher up. Internal hemorrhoids, those that are higher up in the rectum, are generally not problematic.
The external hemorrhoids, the swollen veins right beside the anus, can protrude and cause a burning, itching, and very unpleasant sensation. They may bleed and swell, resulting in a more serious condition.
Treatment Options to Get Rid of Hemorrhoids
Historically the only options were to try to soak the hemorrhoid to reduce the swelling and the pain. If there was significant swelling or other complications surgical removal was often the first choice of treatment.
Now, Infrared Coagulation, or IRC, can be used to simply treat the area just above the hemorrhoid with a few short bursts of infrared light. The patient may experience a slight warm feeling in the area that lasts a minute or two. The entire procedure takes about 10 minutes and is repeated as necessary until the hemorrhoid simply shrinks and is absorbed back into the body.
This is the ideal way to get rid of hemorrhoids as there is no incision, patients see results very quickly and there is no recovery time after the procedure. It simply stops the blood flow to the vein and allows the area to return to normal.
We can help you to get rid of hemorrhoids in a painless, safe, non-surgical way.
