It is a common misbelief that living in a dorm is always cheaper than living on your own in a student apartment. However, the reverse is almost always true. That’s right, and apartments come out to be cheaper than dorms. This is mainly due to the fact that dorms charge a premium on virtually everything. Sure, that meal plan sounds great on the surface, but you’d be better off just buying your own food at the grocery store and cooking yourself.
More Space
Even if you were to live in a dorm room alone (which you won’t), you would be cramped for space. This is not an issue when you decide to choose an apartment instead. The living space that you enjoy is greatly increased, and you can even have one or more roommates without feeling stifled by a lack of personal space.
Life Experience
One thing about college is that it is supposed to be preparing you for the real world. However, this is hard to do when everything is being handled for you, and you don’t even pay your own bills. TTU off-campus housing gives you the opportunity to learn life skills so that you are ready for the adult world.
