When shopping for a used pickup truck, all the different names for cab styles can be confusing. You know you want passenger seating room, but what’s the difference between a quad, crew and mega cab? You also wonder whether getting a large cab has to compromise the amount of bed space, as you don’t want a short bed. Fortunately, if you buy a Dodge ram quad cab in Texas or another style of a truck with an extended cab, you can get a long bed conversion and have the best of both worlds.
The Quad cab is the name for a specific Dodge style, whereas many vehicle manufacturers use the term crew cab. In the Dodge Ram, both these styles seat six adults and have the same amount of leg room in front. Both have four doors. The Quad cab has less rear leg room, and it also has smaller exterior cargo volume. If you can deal with the smaller space in the rear seating area, you might want to look into the possibility of a long bed conversion from a company such as Precision Bodyline.
Another option is the Dodge Mega cab, which has a bigger seating area in back than the Quad does. You can have a long bed conversion done on this body style as well. If you like the idea of a big, roomy truck, the Mega cab may be most suitable. However, it does tend to cost more and will get somewhat lower gas mileage. All these factors should be considered as you decide whether to buy a Mega cab or a Dodge ram quad cab in Texas.
You’ll find other terminology for extended cabs, depending on which manufacturer you prefer. You’ll see adjectives such as super, access, double and king. However, if you’re set on a Dodge Ram, concentrate on ads that mention quad and mega cabs, or simply extended and crew cabs. That will help you narrow your search. If you find a truck that’s close to what you want but doesn’t have modifications such as a hitch or a bed step, you can have that work done when you bring your truck in for the long bed conversion.
