If you are a do it yourself type person and you are afraid to tackle such jobs as air conditioning you do not have to fear it any longer. There is no need to be afraid of working on your air conditioner and to hire someone to take care of it for you. You may wonder how you can get around ever having to have your air conditioning serviced. Well the way you do that is by learning to perform routine maintenance on your air conditioning system yourself. In order to do this you will need to keep an eye on a few things. It may be that your air conditioning system has too many problems to fix on your own with simple maintenance but you will know once you start looking and working with your system.

It is a good idea to clean your air conditioning unit on a regular basis. I am sure you have never thought about the fact that your air conditioning system needs to be cleaned routinely but now you know. You will need to scrub the grill slats with a soft brush and soap and water. This will help to remove and pollen or gunk that has built up over the months and also help to remove any leaves or debris that has fallen through the cracks. Sometimes debris can be a huge problem for your air conditioning system, especially if you live out in the woods near a lot of trees. It’s best to keep trees and bushes away from your air system, so that you will have less routine maintenance work for yourself.

Another routine maintenance you can do to help insure that your air conditioning system is working properly and will continue to work properly is to change the filter on a regular basis. This is a really simple way of keeping your system working in top notch fashion. It doesn’t take very long at all to replace a filter and it is not expensive either.

You should check for a Freon leak by making sure that the air coming out of your system is cold. If it is warm or hot, you may have a Freon leak that needs to be taken care of right away. As you can see these routine maintenance fixes are simple and to the point, not much work involved in them at all.

Another way you can keep your air system working properly is to check the air ducts. When the unit is turned on you should feel for leaks. If there are no leaks you are good to go. If there are leaks you can fix them with duct tape.
